The Reading Room

Books, articles and ideas shaping how I think.

This is not a recommended-reading list. It is a record of the things that have genuinely stayed with me — the books I keep thinking about, the essays I have sent to people, the frameworks that quietly changed how I see my work. I will keep adding to it.

Book

Unreasonable Hospitality

Will Guidara

I have been meaning to read this for a long time and I am finally in it. Guidara ran Eleven Madison Park and this book is about what it actually means to make someone feel seen — not just served. The premise is that the most memorable experiences are the ones that go beyond what anyone expected. That idea resonates with everything I believe about both hospitality and HR.

Professional Skills for the Workplace Specialization

University of California, Davis

I'm currently completing this online specialization to strengthen and formalize skills developed throughout my career, including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, adaptability and professional effectiveness. I'm especially interested in connecting structured learning with the practical judgment that comes from years of leading people and operations.

Books That Stayed With Me

Book

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team

Patrick Lencioni

Its fable format made the leadership concepts more engaging and recognizable than traditional business literature. The framework gave me a useful way to think about how trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results build on one another.

Scar Tissue Makes Relationships Wear Out

Professor John Ousterhout

Read it

This one stopped me. The idea is that every difficult interaction leaves a small residue — a tiny bit of scar tissue — and over time that accumulation is what erodes relationships, not any single event. I think about this constantly in the context of workplace culture. The small frictions that go unaddressed are not small at all.

Ideas I'm Exploring

More to come.

This list will keep growing. I add things when they genuinely change how I think — not on a schedule.
